<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Carnival of Alghero, known in Catalan as <em>“Lo Carraixali de l’Alguer”</em>, is one of the most anticipated events of the year in the beautiful Catalan city of Sardinia. This year, from <strong>7 to 21 February 202</strong>6, Alghero turns into a stage of colour, tradition, and fun for the whole family.</p>

<div style="height:100px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Carnival of Catalan Traditions</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Alghero, the &#8220;<em>Sardinian Barceloneta</em>,&#8221; celebrates Carnival while maintaining strong ties to its Catalan roots. The event combines<strong> local culture, collective memory, and entertainment</strong>, renewing itself annually with a program that embraces all generations.</p>

<div style="height:100px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Main Events 2026</h2>

<div style="height:40px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1024" height="682" src="https://www.blualghero.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/carnevale-maschere-sfilata-1024x682.jpg" alt="Maschere di carnevale" class="wp-image-6007" srcset="https://www.blualghero.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/carnevale-maschere-sfilata-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.blualghero.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/carnevale-maschere-sfilata-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.blualghero.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/carnevale-maschere-sfilata-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.blualghero.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/carnevale-maschere-sfilata.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<div style="height:40px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The 2026 edition of the Alghero Carnival will span two weeks of celebrations, with the key dates concentrated between <strong>Fat Thursday (February 12), Fat Tuesday (February 17)</strong>, and <strong>Fat Saturday (February 21).</strong> The program is currently being finalized through a public call for proposals involving local artists, associations, and cultural operators.</p>

<div style="height:100px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The Carnival of the nearby Villages</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Traditionally, on the Sunday before Shrove Tuesday, the villages of Alghero come alive with a <strong>parade of allegorical floats</strong>. In <strong>Guardia Grande</strong>, folk groups and traditional Sardinian masks such as the Mamutzones and Sos Tintinnatos showcase popular creativity. A jury awards prizes to the best floats, celebrating the work of local communities.</p>

<div style="height:100px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Children&#8217;s Carnival &#8211; Alghero, City of Children&#8217;s Carnival</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The most exciting event involves hundreds of participants, including students, teachers, and parents. Born in 1982 with <em>&#8220;Ragazzi in Scena,</em>&#8221; this tradition transforms the historic center into a river of color where schools parade in costume, focusing on educational themes such as fairy tales, literature, the environment, and recycling. A true community celebration, perfect for families.</p>

<div style="height:100px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The Piñatas in the Square</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The day brings the traditional game of Pentolacce to Piazza Sulis, preceded by an<strong> interactive theatrical performance inspired by Sardinian tradition,</strong> like the one in 2025, themed &#8220;<em>The Tale of Peppédda and Su Piràstru.&#8221;</em> After the ticket draw, the audience actively participates in the game with prizes up for grabs, in an atmosphere of joy and sharing that concludes the Carnival festivities.</p>

<div style="height:100px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Collateral events</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In addition to the main events, the <strong>Carnival extends into the neighborhoods and villages</strong> with live shows, street performing arts, music, theater, and dance.</p>

<div style="height:100px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Confirmed Events:</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>21 Feb &#8211; Sant&#8217;Agostino</strong><br>&#8220;I Gelatai di Sant&#8217;Agostino &#8211; Antichi Mestieri e Omaggio a Gaudì &#8211; a special fun event <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f941.png" alt="🥁" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>
